general updates – october 2, 2024

Structure for the lavatory sink is in work. The coffee pot and cup dispenser have been installed. Several crew currency flights were conducted this week.


general updates – august 7, 2024

The Yacht Club has returned to Aurora after a successful trip to Oshkosh. A post flight inspection and post flight discrepancies are in work.


general updates – july 11, 2024

Both ailerons have been installed, and rigging of the flight controls is in progress. Post engine run discrepancies are nearing completion. Door seals are being installed, and windshields have been installed. Landing lights are being installed. Anti-chafe material is being installed on the wing root and horizontal stabilizer fairings prior to install. The 91.411 and 91.413 checks are being completed. Stencils are beginning to be applied to the aircraft.

Wings have been hung on the airframe, and the ailerons are being prepped for installation.


general updates – june 26, 2024

Both elevators and the rudder have been hung, and trim tabs installed. The main cabin door has been test fit to the aircraft. Nose art has been applied to the left side of the aircraft. The “stars and bars” are being masked for paint on the wings. The first engine runs were performed, and compression checks done.

The wings have been prepped and successfully moved from the Aerometal hangar to the paint booth at a neighboring facility for paint work, and are now through the primer stage. Both propellers are being installed, and preparation for engine runs continues. Cargo nets for the aircraft are being manufactured. The technical team is preparing to hang elevators and the rudder.

Spar repairs on the right wing are almost complete. The wings are being prepped for paint. The Concorde battery conversion has been installed. The hydraulic system is being operationally checked, and gear swings have been performed. The cowling for the number 1 engine is being test fit to the engine.

Paint on the fuselage is nearing completion. Repairs to the right wing are in work.

The fuselage has been painted and moved back to the Aerometal hangar. Detail painting is now in work. Some corrosion has been discovered on the right wing spar cap, and repairs are in work.

The fuselage has been masked, prepped, and successfully moved from the Aerometal hangar to the paint booth at a neighboring facility for paint work.

Power is on the airplane and power on checks have begun. Cowling and engine work continue. Closeout inspections on the wings are in work in preparation for paint.

With Constellation projects complete, we are turning our attention back to the final phase of the C-53 restoration. Work on the cowlings is in progress. Structural repairs on the wingtips are in work. The lavatory is being installed.

The air stair door is being installed.


GENERAL UPDATES – february 14, 2024

Electrical work in both wheel wells is nearly complete. Work on the lavatory and baggage compartment floor structure continues, as does work on the lavatory installation. Blankets for the lavatory bulkheads are being manufactured. Wiring bundles have been tied off underneath the main cabin floorboards. Work on engine systems continues in preparation for engine runs.


general updates – january 31, 2024

The proposed nose art is being mocked up on the aircraft. Final projects associated with engine systems, hoses, and plumbing, flight controls, and electrical are all approaching completion. The avionics installation is basically complete, pending initial power on of the ship’s electrical system. Installation of the baggage compartment structural bulkhead, lavatory floor, and lavatory installation as well as manufacture of aft cabin interior blankets are all progressing rapidly.


structures, electrical, and technical – january 25, 2024

The baggage compartment is coming together, with blankets being installed. Work on the lavatory floor and the lavatory to baggage compartment bulkhead continues. Safety inspections of the mid cabin flight control runs are in work, and the subfloor is being cleaned out in preparation for floorboard installation. The yokes are being refurbished, and control knobs for the engine and propeller controls have been repainted. The windshield wiper unit and hydraulic pressure gauges have been installed. Map boxes are almost ready to install. Work in the electrical trunk is wrapping up. Work on both engine sections continues, with exhaust sections being installed.


structures, electRical, and Technical – january 18, 2024

The lavatory bulkhead has been manufactured and installed. The baggage compartment floor structure has been modified to accept the new floorboard pattern. Oil tank caps and drains have been installed on both sides. The landing gear retract actuator and position switches have been installed, as has the power brake valve. Electrical work for the left and right landing gear and other nacelle electrical systems is nearing completion. The installation of the fire detection systems has begun on both engines. Avionics installations are almost complete, and the avionics wiring harness is installed. The company aircraft inspection program (OEIP) is ready to submit to the FAA for approval. The aircraft manual system and FAA MEL application are in work, with custom maintenance logbooks on order.


electrical, control cables, cowling work – december 2023

Work continues on the cowl flaps and cowling. Electrical work in the wheel wells and forward of the firewall continues, with new conduit installed firewall forward. Wire bundles in the forward flight deck area have been tied off. Control cables in the wings are being manufactured and installed.


SYSTEMS, AVIONICS, and STRUCTUREs – December 2023

The new aircraft inspection program is ready for submission to the FAA. Plumbing for the pitot static system is being manufactured and installed. Work is almost wrapped up in the wheel wells, with electrical being run and oil lines being installed.


ELECTRICAL, OIL SYSTEM, STRUCTURES – DECEMBER 2023

Oil tanks are being installed in both wheel wells. Work continues on the instrument panel installation and wiring. The skin repair on the left side of the fuselage near the trailing edge has been completed. The structures team has started work on the air scoops for the cowling.


Electrical, oil system, structures work – november 2023

Instrument installation and work on the associated wiring continues. The lavatory bulkhead supporting structure is being installed. Engine cowlings are being built up. The oil tank straps are completed, and the building up of the oil tanks in preparation for installation is in progress.
